After advertising, I searched for a unique art form that no one in my family had tried before. I began experimenting with bread dough but I was disappointed with the results. The dough would crack very easy and the final appearance was unpredictable. I started looking for a substitute. I found polymer clay. It was wonderful. The clay could flip, turn, and do somersaults if I wanted it to. It would not crack and the appearance was very consistent. It was easy to work with. I have created several hundred designs but I still have not had time to create all of the ideas I have in my head.
When I started using eggs, I first used chicken eggs. The results were fantastic. I have added other eggshells types such as the goose and duck eggs. My personal favorites are the chicken eggs. These eggshells are part of some of the prettiest designs especially with luminary eggs because of their thin shells allows the eggshell to glow much more than goose or duck shells.
Many people mistake these eggs for ceramic or porcelain. These eggs, however, are real. There is no coating on the shell. All these designs consist of are the eggshell, clay, and glue.
All of the scenes, roses, leaves, and clay work are created by hand. I do not use molds of any kind. I use some general patterns like circles, hearts, etc., but generally I like to create some of my own patterns. The carving or the cuts in the egg are made with a special drilling tool. I use some stencil patterns but many of the carvings or cuts in the egg are made by freehand.
